Have you ever witnessed a taekwondo competition where energy and excitement practically crackle in the air? Well, that's exactly what happened at the recent Melbourne Taekwondo KPNP International Open Championship.

On Sunday 20th July, at the Craigieburn Sports Stadium, athletes from around the world came together. When our young Mozhdeh Martial Arts stars stepped onto the mats, they brought something special—not just skills, but real heart and passion. Honestly, watching them compete reminded me of why we love a taekwondo competition in the first place: it’s a powerful mix of discipline, athleticism, and raw spirit. And, let me tell you, they brought it all!

So, how did our MMA Melbourne taekwondo team perform?

Simply put—they dominated! Our squad walked away with an incredible 7 gold and 4 silver medals. Here's the quick rundown:

  • 🥇 Arad – 2 Gold medals

  • 🥇 James – 1 Gold medal

  • 🥇 Riddley – 1 Gold, 1 Silver medal

  • 🥇 Ali – 1 Gold medal

  • 🥇 Lucy – 1 Gold medal

  • 🥇 Geremy – 1 Gold medal

  • 🥈 Emily – 2 Silver medals

  • 🥈 Darya – 1 Silver medal

Pretty amazing, right? But let’s pause for a second—because it wasn't just about medals. The way our athletes carried themselves, with respect, honour, and relentless determination, made it even sweeter. This taekwondo competition wasn't just another event; it was proof of the incredible talent flourishing in our Melbourne taekwondo club.

A Shout-Out to the Heart Behind our Melbourne Taekwondo Team

We’ve got to give a huge round of applause to Coach Makayla, who stood by our competitors all day. If you've ever coached or mentored young athletes through a taekwondo competition, you know how exhausting—and rewarding—that role can be. Her encouragement, strategic insights, and infectious positivity truly made all the difference to our Melbourne taekwondo team. Great coaching makes great competitors—and Makayla's influence was unmistakable at this taekwondo competition.

Beyond the Podium: Why A Taekwondo Competition Matters

Medals are fantastic (and we love to celebrate them!), but a taekwondo competition like this reminds us about something deeper. They're a chance to develop character, resilience, and friendships. You learn how to handle pressure, celebrate victories with humility, and accept setbacks with grace—life skills that go far beyond the mats.

As the Melbourne taekwondo scene continues to grow, competitions like these become even more meaningful. They set benchmarks, inspire younger athletes, and show the community just how far we've come.

What's Next for our Melbourne Taekwondo Team?

You might be wondering: What’s next after such an incredible achievement? Well, our athletes are just warming up! With the next taekwondo competition on the horizon, there are plenty of opportunities for them to showcase their growth and passion again and again.

If you’re in Melbourne and thinking about getting involved in a taekwondo competition or just curious about martial arts, consider this your sign to jump in! After all, who knows—you might just find yourself up on that taekwondo competition podium one day.

Here's to our incredible athletes, dedicated coaches, and the thriving Melbourne taekwondo community! Keep chasing your dreams, fighting with heart, and inspiring us all. For more pictures from the day, check out our instagram.
